Dandruff- Causes and Treatment
Seborrhea-is a medical term for Dandruff is the most common and persistent scalp problem found both in men and women regardless of age. It causes itching to your scalp and embarrassment if the flakes fall out or spread on your dress or shirt while you are in a official meet or hanging out with friends or on a date.
Factors that causes Dandruff:
• It’s kind of skin eczema that occurs in parts of body where oil is deposited. Scalp, ears, chest, below breasts etc. are a few body parts where dandruff flakes can be found.
• It’s the yeast called Malassezia furfur that causes dandruff.
• Scalp dandruff is scaly, patchy, dry-looking and greasy substance that form over your scalp.
Here are a few effective treatments to ward-off dandruff and have healthy and bouncy hair.
Dandruff Treatment # 1: Shampoos that contain T/Gel, salicyclic acid, zinc pyrithione (like Head & Shoulders), selenium sulfide (Selsun Blue), Ketoconazole (Nizoral) are recommended. Shampoo your hair twice or thrice with the shampoo that contains the above given ingredients.
Dandruff Treatment # 2: there are few creams available that would serve the purpose. Try using cortisone cream with 0.5% or 1% concentration that is available for scalp in the form of lotion. You can also use them with medicated shampoos. Also, antifungal creams like 1% clorimazole and 2% micanazole creams should be applied twice a week.
Dandruff Treatment # 3: Get rid of the excess oil over your scalp. Try to keep your hair clean and wash them regularly. Do not let oil get deposited on your scalp as it serves as fodder to the fungus.
Dandruff Treatment # 4: Make use of herbal packs mixed with curd and wash your hair with lime based shampoo.
Dandruff Treatment # 5: Massage your scalp with almond oil and give steam to your hair by dipping a thick Turkish towel in hot water and wrapping it around your hair.
Dandruff Treatment # 6: Prepare a concoction of 1 tbsp. lime juice, 100g of witch hazel and 200ml water and apply it on washed hair.
